Our program is designed to walk towards an experience of peace and calmness, of being part of the whole, of being a contributor and well as recipient.

We always intended to be an oasis for children, a place of calm, kindness and respite from a fast-moving, sometimes harsh and chaotic world.  This is why at Hoku Lio Farms, our volunteers and staff strive to take time to be conscious, mindful and present in our practices; remembering each hay bag filled, each water bucket served is a gift of service, a love-filled act of care that nourishes each member of the herd.  Even actions that seem small or could be considered tedious, are really an opportunity to convey our love and appreciation for even the smallest member of our community.  In our ecosystem, everything matters.  The plants that feed us, the land supporting us, the trees that shade us, each volunteer who helps care for the farm and herd in big and small ways, we are a community held in care and warm thoughts and actions.  Each member is valuable and makes contributions.  Of course it’s not always ideal but we strive to support each other in this.

Into this general framework and mood, we offer various programs. One of the programs we offer is for children who are living at the emergency homeless shelter.   For these children the program can be incredibly healing, transformative and therapeutic.
